Here’s an idea for a beautiful way to reveal to others the faith that lights your way. Rather than something scary or evil, it is a sign of the power that overcame Satan’s plans for our destruction when Jesus died on the cross for our sins. It can also remind you to pray, for yourself and others in your world, to be protected from Satanic activities that take place around Halloween.

A friend of mine showed me this photo that had been shared with her. The person whose handiwork carved this beautiful pumpkin was kind enough to allow me to share the idea and the photo on my website. Thank you, Tracey!

I did some research online and gathered up a few suggestions for carving a pumpkin:

  1. Choose a pumpkin with a flat bottom to enable it to sit properly. Small pumpkins are more difficult to carve. Watch out for pumpkins with soft spots. The greener the stem, the fresher the pumpkin.
  2. Get a pumpkin-carving tool kit, or have alternatives available. An ice cream scoop can be used to clean out the inside. A paring knife, exacto knife, linoleum knife, and lemon zester are helpful tools. A drill can be used for holes.
  3. Unless you take special steps to keep the pumpkin from deteriorating, you might want to wait until at least three days before Halloween to carve the pumpkin. Keep it cool til then.
  4. If you cut out the top as a lid, cut at an angle so the lid won’t fall in. If you cut out the bottom instead, a lot of the insides that you have to clean out will come out with it. It will also be easier to light the candle, if you’re using a real one.
  5. Clean out as much of the “goop” and strings as you possibly can. The “goop”will get moldy. If you find it disgusting, you can use rubber gloves.
  6. Draw your design on the pumpkin with a pencil before carving. Carve out the smaller openings first. Once you carve large openings, it’s easy to cave in part of the pumpkin while trying to carve the other openings.
  7. Light and enjoy!
