The “Resurrection Eggs” kit containing miniature mementos of the Easter Story, which has been being used for over 20 years, is a great way to share the story with young children. But what about older children who are ready to move on to deeper thoughts about God’s plan to save us through the cross from the beginning of time? Here is a way to share thoughts with children about age 9 and up. In fact, it would be appropriate for anyone who could benefit from an overview of the Bible showing God’s plan for us. Each egg will contain one reading. Open one on each of the 11 days leading up to Easter, and the final one on Easter. Access to the readings and instructions for assembling the kit are provided below.
There are a variety of ways you could use these 12 messages contained inside 12 eggs:
To be read by an individual child of the appropriate age. Including a candy in each egg would be fun.
To be read by two or more children of the same family. You could include enough candies for all in each egg or one tempting treat in each
egg for the one who volunteers to read it aloud. They may have to take turns or draw straws.
To be read as a family. If time permits, the Scripture references provided could also be read. It would make Easter Sunday very special if the whole story of Easter were read by going through all the Scriptures listed on the reading for that day.
Use as a gift for grandkids, nieces and nephews, or even neighbors or friends. Mail it to those far away or deliver it to those nearby. Don’t forget to include treats.
For grandkids or nieces and nephews with whom you are close, you have the option of using the review sheets provided to help kids review the facts and learn some key verses related to the readings. You might choose to use the point system shown at the end of the review sheets to provide some sort of incentive. (Various Bible versions of the verses can be found on the Bible Gateway website.)
If you don’t have a printer, perhaps there is a library, office supply store, Walgreen’s, or a UPS or
Fed Ex location nearby that can help.
