When you serve punch, do you get nervous thinking about the possibility of some punch ending up on your carpet or upholstery? There are some ways to help prevent spills.
When possible, I always opt for buying the low cups. Low cups are less likely to be tipped over. The wider the bottom is, the better. If you don’t find low cups with a wide bottom at your grocery store, you might try a party store.
I’ve discovered some great little “Take’n’Toss” cups made by the First Years company. There are two types—one with spouts and one with straws. Although designed for toddlers, the ones with straws are suitable for any age. The current design does not have the tell-tale teddy bear or A-B-C type of figures on them. They just have something resembling bubbles.
You could use these no-spill cups for all the younger children at your parties. In fact, they would be helpful for elderly guests or guests with other conditions that keep them from having a steady hand. If they might be offended by being offered a different kind of cup, why not just use them for all your guests? They’re very colorful, and they can be used over and over. They come in sets of four. One word of caution: If you put the straw in the lid and then put them on the cup together, you will probably have a little fountain spouting out of the top of the straw. You can avoid it by putting the lid on first and then putting the straw in.
Although I have been teased by my family for some of my frugal actions, I like to wash my disposable plastic cups and reuse them. It’s not only frugal, but it’s eco friendly. I also like to reuse the plastic silverware sometimes. I have been known to dig through the trash for the ones dropped in the trash by those who don’t know my habits. A better plan would be to provide an empty dishpan marked “used cups and silverware.”
