Do you know someone who is in a nursing home, assisted living, or adult foster care or someone who is confined to his or her home, alone and lonely, or has recently lost a loved one? Maybe you could brighten their Valentine’s Day with a “Love Basket.” Put in a little “love gift” or two, such as lotion, tea bags, muffins, cookies, candy, a book, a puzzle, or a puzzle book.
Customizing the gifts to fit the individuals makes the gifts more enjoyable and meaningful. It’s good to keep in mind their likes and also allergies and dietary restrictions. And of course you would want to remember any problems they may have. For instance, you wouldn’t want to give puzzles to persons with severe arthritis in their hands or small-print books to persons with eyesight problems. Sometimes we get in a hurry and forget these considerations.
You may want to be creative and make the heart decorations in a different way. Perhaps you want to cut the hearts out of printed gift wrap. Or maybe you want to cut them out of construction paper of various colors and outline the hearts with glitter. Another option would be to cut out construction paper hearts and draw faces on them.
If the person to whom you plan to deliver the basket may not have received the gift of salvation, ask God to guide you as to whether you should print out “The Story of God’s Love” booklet and the “Happy Valentine’s Day” cover and include it in the basket. (The booklet sheets should be printed back-to-back on one sheet in the way that the pages follow numerically or the edges of the sheets glued back-to-back for the same result.)
