I recently ran across this 68-minute video called The Power of Mothers in a catalog, and the title sounded intriguing. I acquired the DVD from Vision Video and was not disappointed. (I saw that it is currently available digitally through Christian Cinema also.)

This video presents delightful footage of moms, newborns, and young children from around the world. It has remarks by some family experts, as well as from a number of moms. This video has a two-fold purpose. It can make anyone who was blessed to have a good mom have a greater appreciation for the love and sacrifice that was invested in their own life. The other purpose is helping a mom realize just how very important her role is and the great rewards it can bring.

So many profound thoughts about mothers are conveyed in this video. I will share a few here.

  • The love that a mom shows a baby convinces the baby that the world is someplace they want to be.
  • It is the nature of a mother to notice every little detail about her child—things even a dad won’t notice.
  • As the mothers go, so goes the society. Mothers must guard against any messages from society that falsely claim that a mother’s work is not one of the highest roles that can be filled.
  • A mother makes a house a home.

One of the most moving testimonials in this video is by a mom who had given birth to a mentally challenged child years before. She was appalled by the doctor’s attitude. Her child’s disability only added to her desire to love and nurture that child.

Toward the end of the video, some moms share memories of their own mothers and express how much they appreciate their love and their example. The importance of the love of a mom even to an adult is relayed.

Below is a trailer to give you a taste of the video. My DVD has the capability of providing English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, and Arabic subtitles.
