If you’d like to add a little active fun to your Christmas gathering, you might want to try out this game. You’ll need at least about 7 feet by 9 feet of empty space, preferably in the middle of the room where most of the guests are seated. Players on each team take turns aiming for the ribbon, to see if they can hook the cane on the ribbon for 5 points, or at least touch the ribbon for 1 point.

Instructions for making the “candy canes,” as well as making other preparations, are provided. Suggested options for introducing the game give opportunity to tie the real reason for Christmas to the symbol of the candy cane. Procedures for playing the game are also provided, to make it a snap for the host or hostess.

Remember, if you don’t have a printer, there are other options. Offer a treat to a friend or relative in exchange for using their printer. Many libraries have computers with printers attached, and the fee for making photocopies is usually nominal. There may be an office supply store or a UPS or Fed Ex station near you that offers that service. Find out their charges.
