As you can see, the theme of this Advent Calendar is “The Coming of Jesus–Light of the World.”
As each date comes, you untie the ornament and retie it with the back side showing, revealing a Scripture passage to read that day. By the time Christmas Day comes, you should be inspired by the real meaning of Christmas. When Christmas is over, you can hang it in the closet for a future year. This calendar covers two weeks, beginning Dec. 12th. If it’s too late for you to make it this year, you should be able to find it in the archives next year.
My niece made a sample of this calendar project. She added her own touch by writing the dates with a gold pen, rather than cutting and pasting the labels, and making the “Coming of Jesus” title by hand, mounting it on contrasting paper. You may want to add your own touch, too. She said she liked the project and thought it would be fun for a family to do together. She estimates 2 to 2 1/2 hours for the project, with one person working on it.
To do this project, you need a printer. My apologies if you don’t have one. If you are close to a library, perhaps you could make copies there for a nominal charge. Or maybe you could get a friend or a family member to make copies for you in exchange for a few homemade cookies or muffins (or maybe some from a nearby bakery?).
