Here’s an idea that might come in handy when you’re having a friend or two over for coffee or tea, if you’d like to serve something fresh from the oven that’s quick. Keep some refrigerated dough for ready-made crescent rolls on hand. Before you roll them up and bake them, turn them into dainty pastries.

  1. After you lay them out flat on the baking sheet, butter them lightly. (Allow the butter or margarine to get to room temperature first.)
  2. Then sprinkle on some cinnamon and some sugar or palm sugar, sometimes called “coconut sugar.” (If you have an empty spice jar with sprinkle holes, you could fill it with sugar or palm/coconut sugar to make it more convenient to sprinkle it evenly.)
  3. For an optional added touch, you could sprinkle a few ground or finely chopped nuts, or maybe even a little coconut.
  4. Roll up the crescents and bake as directed.
  5. When you take them out of the oven, loosen them with a pancake turner.

Of course you could just buy refrigerated dough that’s prepared as cinnamon rolls, with a sweet topping provided. But the little crescent rolls will be less sweet and less messy. They make a nice little “finger food.” And you have the option of substituting palm/coconut sugar and adding nuts and/or coconut.
