Do you have any kids in your family who have been taught Evolution as a fact, instead of just a theory with lots of holes? If they are middle school age or up, there’s a book that might be just what they need in order to learn the truth. The book is called It Couldn’t Just Happen: Knowing the Truth about God’s Awesome Creation. Masterfully written by Dr, Lawrence O. Richards, it is based on the idea that our amazing world could not possibly have been created by chance. The now-deceased author wrote more than 200 Christian books. He wrote features for a children’s Bible and a study Bible for teens. This book won the Gold Medallion Book Award.

An earlier edition focused more on the complex design of our world that in itself is undeniable evidence of a Creator. This 248-page edition is not only loaded with information about the complexity of our world, but also information about the problems of the theory of Evolution. It is full of colorful photos, diagrams, and charts.

It Couldn’t Just Happen contains five parts. By seeing the titles of some of the chapters, you may get an idea of the value of the contents of this book. Part One is entitled “Earth in Our Universe.” The chapters in Part One are entitled (1) “The Universe and Its Origins;” (2) “Dead Planets, Living World;” (3) The ‘Odd Planet’;” (4) “World in the Making;” and (5) “Mysteries of the Earth.”

Here are the titles of the other four main parts of the book. Part Two is “How Life Began.” Part Three is “Evidence from Living Things.” Part Four is “Humanity in God’s Nature.” Part Five is “The Book That Didn’t Just Happen.” Part Five defends the validity of the contents of the Bible and explains that, unlike Evolution, the Bible presents an opportunity to spend eternity with God through His offer of forgiveness to those who choose to accept it. This part of the book explains that Evolution provides no meaning for life. According to Evolution, humans share the same fate as the animals. At the end of life, life is just over.

Erroneously believing that the theory of Evolution is a valid explanation of creation can cause young people to lose their faith in all the truths of the Bible. If someone can’t believe that the Creation Story of the Bible is the real story of how our world came to be, why would they believe the rest of the Bible is true? The impact of this book could be priceless. If you have a student in your family who has been misled by fake scientific information, I hope you will consider this book as a source of crucial redirection. If your student has been taught creation by God without being challenged by Evolution theories, they may need the knowledge contained in this book as ammunition should their faith be later attacked in college.

If the student you wish to have read this book is not particularly studious, perhaps you could devise a reward system. Maybe you could create a question for each of the 20 chapters. For example, you could ask “What is the meaning of the word “kosmos”? Or you might ask “How many days does it take our sun to rotate?” They could get a point for each correct answer. Each chapter has five “Just for Fun” activities. They could also get a point for each completed activity. The reward could be cash for total points at the end. Or maybe you could do weekly rewards, such as a trip to the donut shop or the skate park or their favorite breakfast served on Saturday, for a correct answer and at least two “Just for Fun” activities completed. If incentive is needed, you could create a reward system that is doable for you and would appeal to one of your student’s strong likes.
